Artist Statement

I’m a visual artist and composer born in Austria, currently living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. My atmospheric paintings are a tool to explore and collect the hidden dynamics of Earth’s atmosphere. I use stacks of paper as a spatial structure and ink as a marker of time, allowing natural processes to create the artwork. Pigments reorganize through wind and gravity in fractal structures and show a tense and infinite spectrum of form and color. The resulting image reflects the energetic dynamics and gradual progress of creation; the artwork is a site-specific fingerprint of the planet’s atmosphere.

While at Headlands

While at Headlands I’m going to realize two atmospheric paintings: one capturing the complex environment of the shoreline, the other the soft moving hills of the Marin Headlands. Piano compositions, written as an emotional response to the place, will complement the visuals. Further, I plan to extend my research and writing about the artwork beyond anthropocentric ways of thinking.
