Wind, Shine, Crinkle, Play Workshop
An improvisational movement workshop led by Graduate Fellow Josephine Devanbu during Summer Open House
In this improvisational movement workshop, we will play with reflective mylar blankets to immerse ourselves in the texture of the present moment and attune to our surroundings.
We will begin by exploring the sensory qualities of the brand-new blankets, each of which comes tightly folded into a palm-sized rectangle. What does it sound like when we flip through a blanket like an accordion? How does the world look reflected in its slippery mirrored surface? How much can we slide it around in our palms without it opening?
We will contemplate the moment, never to be repeated, before we irreversibly unfold and crinkle the blankets. Then we’ll take the plunge, with each participant charting their own course from the thousands of possible ways to unfurl the blankets.
We will continue with a series of movement prompts, exploring the blankets’ interaction with sunlight, wind, temperature, movement, and our own bodies, allowing ourselves to move and play with what arises.
Open to adults and children aged seven and up.
