This exhibition is the result of a yearlong artist residency at Headlands Center for the Arts. Tom Colcord’s remarkable paintings celebrate the vitality and otherworldly qualities of Marin’s coastal open spaces and the private gardens in the artist’s life. On display are large-scale operatic paintings and deft studies that represent Colcord’s wondrous perspective and reward our attention. The Maximalist features the latest body of work by an artist on the rise.

The Tournesol Award recognizes an emerging Bay Area painter in support of establishing and maintaining a career in the region. The Award supports a full year of artistic development, and includes a $10,000 stipend, a private studio, and a culminating exhibition or project of the artist’s choice.

The Maximalist is located on the third floor of Building 944, and is accessible only by stairs.
