Light Sensitive: Lumen Printing Workshop & Tea Tasting
Workshop Info
The artist duo, Aleksandra Wałaszek & Samuel Stevens, invite participants to explore the landscape and history surrounding the Headlands Center for the Arts. Using the lumen printing photographic technique, participants will document their impressions of Headlands’ flora –walking away with a postcard sized print.
While the photographs are being captured by the sun the artists will serve a wild fennel ferment called “Nuclear tea.” Based on Surica, a Polish folk beverage named after a Slavic sun goddess, wild yeasts and bacteria are cultured from fresh cut herbs, flowers and fruits to create a sour and sweet probiotic drink.
By engaging with the more-than-human (hi)stories visitors are encouraged to observe and question an environment shaped by military history and conservation. Exploring the vocabulary used in plant sciences & cultural landscape management, the workshop asks: can shifts in language help us relearn the world around us and reconsider its histories?
