Artist Statement

My artistic interest focuses on the idea of exploiting new procedures of research in relation to identity and questioning the methods of transmission of artistic knowledge. I wish during my residency to share many questionings which concern essentially the reality, the absurd and the consciousness through the process of identification. I was born in Safi but I have spent all my life in Casablanca, a city with a specific environment, that I start to question and create performances to understand this environment by creating situations and breaking the passivity of the spectator. I try to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way, like to involve the viewer in a way that is sometimes physical and believes in the idea of function following form in a work.

While At Headlands

During my residency at Headlands I wish to explore my questionings which essentially the process of identification. It is a question of deepening and opening these notions through the experimentation which would allow me to translate a comment into a proposition. In Headlands’ residency program I would like to work in performance based on the reflection on the work process as the subject of exploration. It looks into the concept of disciplines, codes of stage space and public perception on different levels. In this performative practice a debate on ideas and choreography is evolving, guided and discussed along three aspects: diversion, processing and phenomenology. The starting point of this project is to undergo the influence of artistic ideas and external aesthetics to build a performative dialogue.
