Artist Statement

I am a Los Angeles-based artist working with video, performance, and installation. My recent work focuses on human-technology relationships and the tension between human-built environments and wild ecologies. Sound-image relationships in particular are integral to my work. Sound, with direct correlation to social themes of harmony and dissonance, forms an ideal platform for translating and exploring modes of cooperation and individualization, as well the multiple forms of attention built into any viewing (or living) scenario.

While At Headlands

While at Headlands, I plan to develop a new body of work, Broken Solar, that includes both video and painting. The video-in-progress makes use of broken solar cells, arranging fragments of shattered panels to form warped grids. The paintings are quite meditative to produce. Arrays of lines and grids inspired by photo-voltaic surfaces treat the solar cell as a formal device: translations of space, light, and electricity.
