Artist Statement
Wonder – Immersion – Connection
I am captivated by the aesthetic and sensory language as a bridge between humans and nature. Working with art is a way of understanding the world.
Wonder emerges in the accumulation of materials and objects from nature. Artworks arise in the cracks between contexts, systems, and perspectives on the world—combining natural sciences, cultural history, and spiritual language.
Immersion unfolds in the creative process: the scent, sound, silence, touch, image, and story. Conversations beside the small child, whose hands, body, and words are deeply interconnected.
Connection bridges people, bodies, nature, light, and darkness.
My practice is rooted in material exploration at the intersection of object-based and time-based art. It thrives on open, experimental laboratory formats, focusing on collecting, processing, showcasing, and archiving.
My works are developed in collaboration with a creative team of designers, artisans, and academics, operating within a professional network with diverse expertise.
While At Headlands
At Headlands, I will redevelop Archive of Beauty & Decay, a traveling public artwork inspired by Joseph Beuys’ philosophy of social sculpture, viewing art as a transformative force. Drawing from Beuys’ deep connection to nature and shamanistic approach, the project reflects a circular, ritual-based form. His performance How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare, where he whispers to a hare while covered in honey and gold dust, inspires the intuitive, spiritual essence underpinning the project.
The Archive explores sustainable living and the relationship between art, body, nature, and people. It features three parts: The Flower Room, showcasing drying plants; The Earth Room, displaying public-collected soil samples; and The Scent Mirror, distilling essential oils for sensory engagement. The Front Desk fosters participation through kits and maps, while a mobile Field Lab engages youth in sustainability education. Scalable from performance to long exhibitions, the project encourages community ownership and transformative creativity.
