Artist Statement

I create songs and sounds using voice, language, and a variety of instruments. I am inspired by the confluence of phenomena of the natural world with the equally wondrous interior landscapes of ourselves. Working mainly in the realm of popular music, I enjoy subverting the expected modes of structure and technique. I am interested in harmonic and emotional resonances and the capacity of music to draw us into these physical and metaphysical experiences. Not unlike a time capsule such as the golden record on NASA’s Voyager Interstellar Mission, I craft my musical albums considering the possibilities for communication into the distant future.

While At Headlands

While at Headlands I will be continuing work on a new collection of songs. This includes developing the lyrical composition and basic arrangements, as well as experimenting with sound textures and creating recordings to explore the possible sonic homes these songs will eventually occupy.

During this time I will also be researching responses to music in the animal kingdom, with a focus on aquatic environments, and composing a piece for a hippo serenade project currently in development.
