Artist Statement
My current works explore the intersection of the abstract and figurative, rendered in a energetic and chaotic style. My aim is to capture fleeting moments of personal stories and shifting moods through an assortment of paint strokes, forms, textures, colors, and lines.
The themes I continue to explore are deeply influenced by my current emotional state and experience that are deeply personal and unique to me. I draw inspiration from art history, home, childhood, animals and western culture.
I prefer to fill the canvas with images to ensure the viewers eye is in motion, preventing a single idea or story from becoming fixed. It is important to me that my works remains open to the viewers own interpretation. I pa int intuitively, often without a preconceived notion of the final result; ultimately, I learn more about myself once a painting is done.
While At Headlands
During my time at Headlands AIR, I will be working on large-scale paintings, which will be featured in my exhibition at BAMPFA MATRIX, on view December 2026 – April 2027. The expansive studio space at Headlands provides the necessary environment to complete these works.
With over two months of dedicated time and access to resources, I am able to focus exclusively on my creative practice away from daily pressures. The peaceful, nature-filled environment offers the seclusion required for deep creative work and artistic growth.
I am also looking forward to interacting with fellow residents. These connections bring new perspectives to my work and create potential for future collaboration. This immersive experience, supported by a substantial stipend, enables me to continue experimenting and shifting my creative boundaries. It is a privilege to be selected for this residency, which offers significant prestige and further builds my credibility within the art world.
