Artist Statement

My work draws from the natural world and the balance between the earth and its living counterparts. I engage with my Chilean history through its landscape, communities, and labor practices, often working with organic materials that are indigenous to Latin America. In an interdisciplinary practice that spans drawing, weaving, installation, mural-making, and film, I use common materials such as recycled wood, thread, felt, cotton, paper, and natural pigments to describe the social impact of grown and circulated objects within a belabored economy.

While at Headlands

For this residency, I seek to engage in immersive research on the wild flora around Sausalito. Creating critical learning environments is an essential part of my practice, which explores the intricate connections between labor, nature, and the environment. I propose mutual explorations of the region’s natural resources, fostering reciprocal exchange and raising awareness about ecological systems and consumer behavior. I am particularly inspired by the stories natural materials tell—political, social, and economic—through their histories and migrations. My goal is to continue developing sustainable methods for harvesting natural pigments while nurturing a respectful, symbiotic relationship with the environment, which ultimately sustains my artistic practice.
