Artist Statement

My passion for the extremes in both composed and improvised music has led me to the fringes of storytelling and sound art as my sources of musical inspiration. I create work where my experiments with sound and structures have degrees of unpredictability. My recent projects combine field recordings and live improvisation with text, a synth, a flute, sampled audio and live processing. I feel a responsibility to make work that grapples with complex social and political issues and to communicate those ideas in performance settings.

While At Headlands

I am currently involved with making field recordings of Third Nature where patches of nature are juxtaposed with human apparatus. I plan to record the highways, ferries and trains and find other locations where one can still hear birds and bugs and wind amongst all the other human sounds. I plan to invest time to learn how to mix binaural headphone audio of my works and to make the listening experience artistically relevant.
