Artist Statement

I am a Korean multimedia artist based in San Francisco and Los Angeles. My work engages in socio-ritualistic, auto-ethnographic, and archival practices, using technologies such as 3D animation, modeling, and artificial intelligence as generative tools. Through these mediums, I create realms where I can rewrite mythic matrilineal histories, queer familial relations, and envision decentralized communities and memoryscapes. At the heart of my practice is Leymusoom, an autobiographical feminist religion I initiated in 2017 as both a personal and communal framework for integrating feminist practice into daily life.

While At Headlands

During my residency at Headlands, I hope to restore my creative spring and open new chapters of my ongoing Leymusoom practice. I imagine my studio as a collaborative and playful space, working with a team that includes a 3D animation artist, my hypnotherapist, an art writer, and an art historian. I will begin a new body of video work expanding the Leymusoom Firefly series, where I return to my family archive to summon maternal ancestors as guides and companions. Using the AI image-editing tool Adobe Firefly, I extend the edges of old photographs, filling the gaps of memory with imagined spaces of care and resilience. At Headlands, I will translate these acts of remembrance into experimental video and installation, guided by trance, AI collaboration, and collective feminist storytelling.
