Artist Statement
My creative process centers on painting, cutting, and assembling paper. My methods are low-tech, relying on accessible materials like paper, glue, and metal brads, which serve both decorative and functional purposes. Paper is economical, portable, and quiet. With simple tools such as hole punches, scissors, and fasteners, I construct by weaving and grid-making. By transforming paper into intricate visual narratives, I explore themes of consumerism and the complexities of contemporary life seemingly hidden beneath playful surfaces. Re-imagining common materials, I strive to create art that is accessible, thought-provoking, and visually engaging, bridging the gap between everyday life and artistic expression.
While At Headlands
Headlands is a time of experimentation. Exploring new construction methods, I’ll work with strips and lengths of paper—overlapped, fastened together, and shaped into objects with physical presence. By experimenting with shape, volume, and interweaving, I’ll push the paper from its naturally flat surface into a more structural and spatial plane. I envision the resulting constructions as a field or landscape to be wandered in and out of, through and around. This residency provides a special opportunity to advance this sculptural direction. I cannot wait for the uninterrupted time to concentrate and search for the meaning within my work.
