Support Headlands
Headlands Center for the Arts is a 501(c)3 public benefit arts organization supported through a combination of individual contributions, foundation, corporate, and government contributions, earned income, special event income, and in-kind contributions, as well as the donation of time and experience generously offered by our community of volunteers and interns.
There are many ways in which you can help make Headlands' programs for artists and the public possible!
* Become a Headlands Member.
* Make an in-kind donation of new or gently used equipment to help keep our programs running smoothly.
* Join us at an upcoming special event.
* Volunteer your time, energy, and expertise at a public program or special event, or explore current internship opportunities.
The Impact of Your Support
With Member, donor, volunteer, and intern support in the past year, Headlands:
* Commissioned the creation of the Reverse Ark, a site-specific Victory Garden growing herbs to be used in Headlands' Mess Hall kitchen, by Amy Franceschini (AIR '03) and Michael Swaine (AIR '03).
* Completed the renovation of Headlands' wood-burning brick oven (Ann Hamilton's Mess Hall Commission, 1990), originally designed by West Marin's own bread oven builder and baker Alan Scott.
* Hosted nearly 30 public programs, events, and open studio opportunities (the majority of which are free), offering public access to the artistic process through artist talks, panel discussions, performances, readings, exhibitions, Project Space residencies, and Open Houses.
* Provided fully sponsored residencies, including housing, studio space and meals, to 40 Artists in Residence from across the country and around the world, including Michael Muhammad Knight, writer (AIR '09, NY), Flora Wiegmann, dancer / choreographer (AIR '09, CA), Hurvin Anderson, painter (AIR '09, United Kingdom), Miguel Palma, sculptor / installation artist (AIR '09, Portugal), J. Morgan Puett, interdisciplinary artist (AIR '09, PA), Genine Lentine, writer (AIR '09, CA), and Jacob Dahlgren, sculptor / installation artist (AIR '09, Sweden).
* Provided 8 recent MFA graduates with year-long studio awards via the Graduate Fellowship program, in partnership with 8 regional academic institutions.
* Provided 25 Bay Area artists with awards of subsidized studio space through the Affiliate Artist program.

.... .. .. ."In a cultural and economic climate that is adverse to living as an artist, the physical, financial and moral support provided by the outstanding staff of the Headlands not only gave me the time and space to develop a new and ambitious work, but also infused me with a deeper sense of purpose and belonging as an artist in society." Theresa Wong, musician / composer (AIR '09, CA)
"After more than six years of writing from war zones, I was able to take some time and focus on purely creative writing. For a working journalist, this was a godsend." Phillip Robertson, writer (AIR '08, NY)
