Graduate Fellowship Program 2018—2019, UC Davis
Dripping drops of paint splash and explode like an ecstasy of disengorgement. But in my studio, much like in my home, adult entertainment has no place: my work is full of PLAY. I capitalize for emphasis much like a convicted, foul word. But that’s just because as an artist I have no age to act, but a sublimely rich culture to expose. The contradictions of Family and sexual desire undress themselves within my work, much like a teenage boy disrobing before an older woman. However, the provocative in my mind is but child’s play—and I encourage everyone to get messy. Ta-da!
While at Headlands
While at Headlands I plan to develop projects from the ground floor. One exciting element of the studio practice is to work in a new studio or environment, and to see how the new space influences said practice. Up to this point my work has been book-ended by painting and technology; I believe my new work in the program will include these mediums. But I am also interested to see how installation can work its way into my new studio atmosphere.
