Please find directions below to reach Headlands Center for the Arts by car, bicycle, bus or ferry. Our street address is: 944 Simmonds Road, Sausalito, CA 94965

A note about accessibility: First-floor spaces in Building 944 (Mess Hall, Key Room, and Latrine) are accessible to people with mobility aids. Second- and third-floor spaces (Westwing, Eastwing, Rodeo Room, and Project Space) are currently accessible only by stairs. Note that there is a steep hill from the MUNI 76X bus stop up to the Headlands campus. During our seasonal Open Houses, special accommodations can be made for those arriving via public transportation. May–October 2019 Weekend Traffic Pattern Shift

On Friday, May 10, Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) will implement phase two of a traffic pilot program to relieve congestion, improve safety and parking, and enhance the visitor experience on Marin Headlands roadways. This traffic plan will be in effect through mid-fall, including Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Fleet Week.

Vehicle traffic through Bunker Road and the Baker-Barry Tunnel in the Marin Headlands will be one-way in the westbound direction on weekends and return to two-way traffic Monday through Friday. Conzelman Road will convert from two-way travel to one-way travel in the eastbound direction between McCullough Road and Alexander Avenue, with a portion of the remaining travel lane dedicated for visitor parking seven days a week.

Bicyclists will not be subject to these restrictions and may continue to ride in both directions.

Traffic is expected to be heavy throughout this area and visitors can expect delays entering and leaving the Marin Headlands during the summer months and holidays.

Please use caution, follow traffic signs, and plan ahead prior to your visit.

For updates, please visit GGNRA’s Current Conditions webpage.

By Bicycle

A bike ride into the Marin Headlands is one of the best and most beautiful ways to reach us! If you’re coming from San Francisco and are not up for the full ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, you can also take your bike on the Sausalito Ferry or on the bus using Golden Gate Transit . Visit The Marin County or San Francisco County Bike Coalition websites to learn more.

By Public Transportation

By Bus:

On Saturdays & Sundays it’s possible to visit Headlands by taking the MUNI 76  bus that runs between San Francisco and the Marin Headlands.

By Ferry:

Golden Gate Transit offers ferry service between Sausalito and San Francisco. The ferry docks in downtown Sausalito, about five miles from Headlands Center for the Arts. There is no public transportation between Headlands and the ferry terminal, but there is a nearby taxi stand. We recommend scheduling your trip with a taxi service in advance, as wait times can be long, and there is no cell service on Headlands’ campus.
