Chamberlain Award

Chamberlain Award is a fully sponsored artist residency and $5,000 cash prize designed to support an artist who displays exceptional merit working in the discipline of social practice. This award supports artists whose creative work implements non-traditional media in order to contribute to conversations about society, while directly manifesting change for individual lives and communities. Chiaro Award

The Chiaro Award is a fully sponsored artist residency and cash prize for an accomplished mid-career painter residing in the United States. The Chiaro Award residency includes a $15,000 cash prize, a 750 square-foot private studio, and engagement with a dynamic network of creative practitioners and thinkers. Learn more

Larry Sultan Photography Award

Presented in partnership with the McEvoy Foundation for the Arts and Pier 24 Photography, the Larry Sultan Photography Award honors the unique vision of American photographer Larry Sultan and his unparalleled impact as an artist, educator, and community member by recognizing one exceptional artist in the medium each year. A fully sponsored artist residency and $10,000 cash prize, the McLaughlin Children’s Trust Award recognizes a writer exhibiting a clear dedication to their practice. Learn more

McLaughlin Foundation Award

The McLaughlin Foundation Award recognizes an established visual artist with a clear dedication to their practice and a substantial body of work. The award includes a fully sponsored artist residency and a $10,000 cash prize. Learn more

Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship

Every other year, Headlands partners with the San Francisco Art Institute to offer the Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship. The Fellowship generously provides the opportunity for artists to teach at SFAI while having the time and financial support to develop creative new work at Headlands through a fully-sponsored residency with studio and living accommodations. Tournesol Award

The Tournesol Award recognizes one Bay Area painter each year, supporting him or her in taking major steps toward establishing and maintaining a career in the Bay Area. The Award is designed to support a full year of artistic work and development, and includes a $10,000 cash stipend, an 800 square-foot private studio, and a funded final exhibition or project of the artist’s choice.
