Work in Progress: Glorious Ravage by Lisa Mezzacappa

Bassist and composer Lisa Mezzacappa (ANW ’15, AIR ’06) and her ensemble present two evenings of site-specific improvisations and preview excerpts from her new work of music and film, Glorious Ravage. Mezzacappa describes the work as a “panoramic free jazz song cycle” inspired by the adventures and writings of lady explorers of the 19th century who trekked to the wildest parts of the earth to escape, to discover, and to lose themselves. Glorious Ravage premieres October 1 and 2 at Brava Theater Center, San Francisco, and as part of the Angel City Jazz Festival in Los Angeles. Glorious Ravage has been developed with support from Headlands Alumni New Works and the MAP Fund.

This event is offsite, and is co-presented with Friday Nights at the de Young Museum.
