Come celebrate the completion of Headlands’ 2018–19 Tournesol Awardee Chasen Wolcott’s award project, a publication called Poursauce conceived of, designed, and produced by the artist. The Tournesol Award recognizes one Bay Area painter each year with a generous cash prize and a yearlong studio residency, culminating in an underwritten project or exhibition. Driven by the inescapable qualities of the natural world, Wolcott investigates autobiographical translations of subject matter in energetic paintings marked by bold color, and confident, gestural mark-making.
“In the quest to make things flawless and beautiful, we remove the grit and spirit, the qualities that actually make them interesting.”
