Lauren Davies’ mixed media work explores our often-troubled relationship to the natural world with projects ranging from commentaries on the artifice of natural history museum presentations to dog breeding and correspondence course taxidermy instructions. The unifying element in her eclectic projects is an obsessive use of sad sack materials and an underlying dark humor. Davies’ work has been presented in the Bay Area at The Oakland Museum, The Exploratorium, De Saisset Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, The Intersection and U.C. Davis/Nelson Gallery, Gallery 16 and ampersand. She has had been an artist-in-residence at the California Academy of Sciences, Djerassi, Santa Fe Art Institute and La Porte Peinte in Noyers, France. Her work has been reviewed in Art in America, The New York Times, SF Chronicle, Art Papers, Art Practical, Art Ltd. and Bark Magazine. She received her MFA in sculpture from San Francisco Art Institute. Lauren Davies lives and works in San Francisco.
