Jeanette Mundt’s lush paintings of vacation, celebration, pets, and interior design are sourced from Google image searches, Flickr accounts, magazines, and personal photographs. By transforming these archetypal images into paintings, Mundt strips them of their ease of consumption, while preserving their aesthetic and universality, inviting the viewer to consider the inherent tension present in the pursuit of the norm. Mundt has exhibited throughout the US and abroad, with recent solo shows at Clifton Benevento and The Tunnel Room at John Connelly Presents, New York; the Project Room at Galerie Mikael Andersen, and Max Hans Daniel, Berlin; as well as group exhibitions at CAPC, musée d’art contemporain, Bordeaux, France; The Journal, Brooklyn; Galerie Mikael Anderson, Berlin; and Space 1026, Philadelphia, among others. Mundt received her BFA from the Pratt Institute. She lives and works in Brooklyn.
