Emily Prince (Graduate Fellow ’09) makes a medium out of the impossibility of capturing the past, probing the layers of memory’s fragility, instability, and unwieldiness. She has received wide acclaim for her ongoing project, “The American Servicemen and Women Who Have Died in Iraq and Afghanistan (but Not Including the Wounded, nor the Iraqis nor the Afghans),” which is documented by an online archive for public access. This project was recently installed at the 2007 Venice Biennale and the Wanås Foundation, Sweden. Prince received her MFA from the University of California, Berkeley. She lives and works in San Francisco.
