Hank Willis Thomas uses photography, graphic design, clothing, sculpture, installation and video to create and explore create correlations between African-American historical challenges and the present. He has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the US and abroad, including Jack Shainman Gallery, New York, where he is represented, as well as Studio Museum in Harlem, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Wadsworth Atheneum, Artists Space, Leica Gallery, Texas Women’s University, Oakland Museum of California, National Museum of American History, and National Portrait Gallery. He received a BFA in Photography and Africana Studies from New York University, and an MFA in Photography and MA in Visual Criticism from California College of the Arts.
