Shinique Smith focuses on finding the 'spiritual and graceful' qualities of consumer culture and nostalgia through assemblages of clothing, objects and graffiti-inspired calligraphy. Recent solo exhibitions include Saltworks, Atlanta, Moti Hasson Gallery, New York, Franklin Artworks, Minneapolis, and Skestos Gabriele Gallery, Chicago, and her work has also been shown at Deutsche Guggenheim, The New Museum, PS 1 Contemporary Arts Center, The Studio Museum in Harlem, The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and The Denver Art Museum. Smith received an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MA in Teaching from Tufts University and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
