Danielle Nelson Mourning uses the device of self-portraiture, through which she slips in and out of homes, clothing and settings belonging to her relatives, in hope of visually addressing the language of her ancestors and herself. She was awarded the Deutsche Bank Pyramid Award for her project Natural History, which explores the her family’s history and retraces memories fixed in the present. Mourning received her MFA from The Royal College of Art, London.
