Christina Empedocles’ photorealistic wax pencil drawings recreate fleeting moments in highly detailed observations, demonstrating the lasting impressions those moments have. Her pictures reflect her personal history and love for nature. Empedocles’ work has been featured in MANIFEST International Drawing Annual 5, New American Paintings, Studio Visit Magazine, Color & Color, and American Art Collector. Her work is included in a number of important contemporary art collections, including the Margulies Collection and that of A.G. Rosen, among others. Empedocles was a 2010 Tournesol Award Finalist at Headlands, and in 2012 the City of San Francisco commissioned a series of her drawings to be displayed in downtown San Francisco as part of the Art on Market Street Program. She earned BA degrees in Studio Art and Geology from Oberlin College and her MFA in Painting from California College of the Arts. She lives and works in San Francisco.
