Jesse Bercowetz & Matt Bua

State: New York
Country: United States
Year at Headlands: 2009
Discipline: visual
Program: project space

Unbound by the limitations of scale, traditional art mediums and aesthetic conformity, the work of Bercowetz and Bua adheres to (and breaks) its own particular set of rules. Often working from both actual and imagined histories and interweaving the supernatural and the factual, Bercowetz and Bua use mostly found materials to create large-scale sculptures and installations that take on a mythology of their own. They describe their piece, Things Got Legs, 2006 as “a multi-part sculptural installation of physical and psychological dross, a subterranean narrative of queasy speculation and borderline paranoia.” They have been collaborating since 2000 and have exhibited together throughout the United States. Bercowetz holds a BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and Bua holds a BFA from East Carolina University, North Carolina.
