J. Morgan Puett is a conceptual installation artist and designer. Her practice is truly interdisciplinary, including installation, social engagement and clothing design (ranging from redesigning the RN patch for a nurse’s uniform to reorganizing her own refrigerator in an aesthetically pleasing way). She draws on her background as a fashion designer and retailer (she began her career by launching her own label and boutique in Manhattan) as well as her rural upbringing as the daughter of a beekeeper and painter. She currently runs Mildred's Lane, an ever-evolving artist project and retreat in rural Pennsylvania, with Mark Dion (AIR '98). Her recent projects include a collaboration with the Art Institute of Chicago to create an installation called Department (Store), which included a monochromatic archive room with objects mined from every department of the museum. She was awarded the Pew Fellowship and has exhibited internationally, including at the Fabric Workshop and Museum of Philadelphia, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, Serpentine Gallery and Victoria and Albert Museum.
