Through fiction, non-fiction and journalism, Michael Muhammad Knight explores the unexpected and underexplored aspects of Muslim identity, largely informed by Knight’s unique personal history. He describes his 2007 book Blue-Eyed Devil as “an ‘American Muslim road odyssey’ in which I travel 20,000 miles in 60 days by Greyhound, hoping to uncover the story of Islam in America.” He portrays Muslim characters and communities with grit, humor and grace. Following a recently hajj, or pilgrimage, to Mecca, Knight hopes to use his time at Headlands to reflect on and write about this experience. Knight has published a number of books and has written extensively for both magazines in print and online.
