Attracted to the nuances of vibration, harmony, and overtone, Ellen Fullman constructed an instrument capable of creating sounds “comparable to standing inside an enormous grand piano.” The Long Stringed Instrument is a sculptural performance piece that articulates the importance of acoustic capabilities and multi-dimensional compositions. Fullman was awarded the prestigious DAAD Artists-in-Berlin residency; Japan/NEA Fellowship; an Aaron Copland Fund grant; and her music was represented in The American Century: Art and Culture at The Whitney Museum, New York.
