Robin Ekiss draws influence from the iconic, Hollywood personalities of the silent screen. She explores the implications of silence as an artistic and generative force in our culture, particularly on women. This has influenced a new series of poems called “Chaplinette,” which she will continue working on while at the Headlands. These poems engage history and memory in ways that are deeply philosophical and lyrical.
Ekiss has published in numerous publications including The Atlantic Monthly, POETRY, Poetry Daily, EPOCH, as well as many others. She was the winner and honorable mention recipient of the Dorthy Sargent Rosenberg Prize in 2006 and 2005 respectively. She also was nominated for six Pushcart Prizes and won second place in the Salt Hill Journal Poetry Contest.
Ekiss received a BA in English and Art History from Wesleyan University and an MA in English and Creative Writing from the University of California, Davis.
