Headlands' Affiliate Artist Program provides local artists with a place for self-directed investigation and access to a supportive creative community. The program offers subsidized, below market studio space to Bay Area artists and arts professionals in multiple disciplines- visual, writing, performance, interdisciplinary, and new media- for periods up to two years.

The Affiliate Artist studios are located in Fort Barry Building 960, an artist-renovated, historic former military building with three levels and twenty studios in total.

Studios range from approximately 100 square feet to 500 square feet and rent for $1.00 per square foot. Studios are equipped with electricity and heating, though temperatures are typically cool in the winter. Artists pay a flat fee for utilities, including wireless internet access, which is added to the rent.

Artists will be selected based on the quality of their work and their interest in working at Headlands. Selections will be made in May by a panel of artists and arts professionals, and studios will be open to new Affiliates as early as June 2010.
